St Jerome said: ‘Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ’. The year 2020 marks the 1,600th anniversary of the death of St Jerome, who translated the Bible into Latin. It is also the 10th anniversary of Verbum Domini, Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Exhortation on The Word of the Lord.
To mark these anniversaries, the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales have dedicated 2020 as a year of focus on the Bible and ‘The God Who Speaks’. In partnership with the Bible Society, this initiative focuses on celebrating, living and sharing God’s Word. The year begins on the First Sunday of Advent, 1 December 2019, and runs until the end of December 2020.
The Bishops’ Conference has a dedicated website – http://www.cbcew.org.uk/home/events/the-god-who-speaks/
At Ampleforth Abbey there will be a series of monthly Study Days looking at different aspects of the Bible.
During the year, we will be celebrating, living and sharing God’s word through a series of monthly Study Days at Ampleforth Abbey, with different speakers helping us to reflect and celebrate God’s Word in a variety of ways.
