"Jesus got up from table…poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet." (John 13:1)
What we value most in life, where we find our home, where we discover joy and belonging, is built of simple seemingly insignificant things. They are like the bricks that make up a house - simple, small, but working together they build a home where love is found, where God lives among us. Those small everyday acts of thoughtfulness, of understanding, of care and service, of food on the table, of birthdays remembered, of mistakes forgiven, prove themselves to be the most powerful force in our lives. Like every house, a home where love lives is built brick by brick.
I invite you today to light a candle.
· As you look at it think of all the acts of kindness and of generous love that have made you who you are today.
· Name for yourself all the people who have brought light into your life and give thanks for them.
· Think of one act of thoughtful service you could do, one brick you could place, today.
“I have given you an example, so that you can do likewise.” (John 13:15)
John 13:1-15
Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to pass from this world to the Father. He had always loved those who were his in the world, but now he showed how perfect his love was.
They were at supper, and Jesus got up from table…poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel he was wearing.
‘Do you understand’ he said ‘what I have done to you? I have given you an example so that you may copy what I have done to you.’
