Did you know there are 11 species of bat in North Yorkshire alone?
We are currently working closely with The Ryevitalise Landscape Partnership as they identify and record species of bat in the River Rye landscape and monitor their interactions.
This week we welcomed two volunteers from Ryevitalise who installed a passive acoustic monitor near Alban Roe House (soon to be the home of our new Visitor Centre Experience). The monitor will be left for a minimum of four nights and is triggered when sound within a certain frequency range is detected. Recordings will indicate what species are present in the Ampleforth valley.
After four nights the monitor will be moved to a different spot in our grounds for further recordings.
Acoustic data will then be assessed and analysed for bat identification and woodland management.
