Ampleforth village, which first made its appearance in the Domesday Book in the 11th century, has been identified by Ryevitalise Landscape Partnership and North York Moors National Park as a place with huge potential to recover the stories of residents through the ages.
From the remains of mediaeval streets to 19th century blacksmiths, physical remains of these tales can be found beneath the quaint and splendour village.
A community archaeological dig has therefore been organised by DigVentures and Ryevitalise Landscape Partnership from Friday 14th - Monday 17th July.
Over the four days, Ampleforth residents are invited to dig archaeological ‘test pits’ across the village, which includes common land, gardens, and in our grounds.
A helpful group of archaeologists will be on hand to assist, and there will be a central Finds Tent where you can bring your discoveries to be processed, identified, and recorded by experts.
