Today, Tuesday 21st September, people around the world observe International Day of Peace 2022, otherwise known as World Peace Day.
Today people across the globe come together to strengthen their dedication to peace, not just by laying down weapons but by building societies in which every individual can flourish, with this year's theme being 'End Racism. Build Peace'.
Abbot of Ampleforth, Robert Igo OSB shares this message to mark this important day:
"In every age, peace is the fruit of a shared commitment... All can, must work together to build a more peaceful world, starting from the hearts of individuals and relationships in the family, then within society and all the way up to relationships between peoples and nations, different cultures and opinions.
The first building block to peace is open dialogue. Dialogue entails listening to one another, sharing different views, coming to agreement, and walking together. Promoting such dialogue between generations, and ethnic backgrounds involves breaking up the hard and barren soil of conflict and indifference in order to sow the seeds of a lasting and shared peace. Take the chance today to listen too and respect someone who is different".
